History of the park
At 61.5 hectares Mountfort Park is the largest of Manukau’s 50 sports parks. The land was acquired by Manukau City Council in two stages, in 1974 and 1980. Sportsfields were developed within the north-east and south-east sections of the park. Shortly afterwards the Manurewa Rugby Club, Clendon United Association Football Club and later the Weymouth Cricket Club established their headquarters in this area. The council also established a depot and nursery in the south east corner of the park.
The depot and nursery are no longer used and existing sports club facilities are aging and in desperate need of repair. At the same time the demand for use of the existing facilities and requests for additional amenities at the reserve are increasing.
